For some reason Google does not provide a visible button to filter or find unread mail in your mail box. In the desktop browser it can be done from the advanced search dropdown. However, in the mobile apps, e.g. on your iPhone or iPad there is no advanced search. But, you can still use the direct advanced search syntax to find your unread lost between the dozens of mails that you receive.

Unread mail does in fact have the label “unread” attached – though not visible besides the bold text. Therefore it possible to do a label search on the unread mail.

label:unread

If you want to search unread mail within one of your ordinary label, or e.g. only you inbox, simply combine the label search with another one:

label:inbox label:unread

Another search syntax that also do the trick is:

is:unread

Another tip is to bookmark the search result page on your mobile device, that way your will always have easy access to your new – and old – unread mail.

Currently, several ways exist to detect the user’s location within a browser. None of these methods are part of the Google Maps API; instead, they are common industry standards.

• Newer browsers are starting to support the W3C Geolocation standard. This standard is part of HTML5 and will likely become the de-facto standard going forward. All applications that wish to perform geolocation should support this standard.
• Some browsers with Google Gears can use Google Gears Geolocation API. Since widespread support for the W3C standard is still forthcoming, checking for Gears is a good fallback mechanism.
• Some browsers use IP addresses to detect a user’s location, though this provides only a very rough estimate.

• Download the Gmail voice and video chat plug-in, quit all open browser windows, and install the plug-in.
• Sign in to Gmail.
• In the Chat section of your Gmail, select the contact you want to call. If they have a camera icon next to their name, you can make a voice or video call to them; just click Video & more.

There is a couple of ways to use GMail on your phone, the two first-mentioned are recommended:

• Use the GMail application on your mobile, go to gmail.com/app on your mobile device’s web browser and download. The application features viewing attachments you receive in messages, including photos, Microsoft Word documents, and PDF files. More info…
• Use the lightweight GMail on your mobile, go to http://m.gmail.com on your mobile device’s web browser. If you connect your computer to the internet using GPRS on your phone via bluetooth, it might be a good idea to use lightweight GMail to economize some of the expensive data transfer. The normal GMail web application will load over 200KB in the initial load, while the lightweight version loads about 10KB. • Your phone might have a build in email application on your phone, e.g. the Nokia 6300 has an application that features support for setting up GMail access through POP3.
