Hello Tay Tay, you are right. However, this is a rather old post from way before Snow Leopard and QuickTime X, where Apple introduced Screen Recording in QuickTime. I have now updated the post to include QuickTime X. Thanks for the advice

hey… y’know you can just open quicktime player and hit file, new screen recording! its free…. not the best quality, but still!

Nice try!)
I can add one more tool – Macvide ScreenCap. It captures video of the whole screen as well as of a definite area of the desktop, outputs it in various video and flash(!) formats. Moreover, it takes single frame screenshots and stores them to png, jpeg, tiff, bmp.
Hope, it may be useful as well))

Well, you are absolutely right, however, screencasting is about making video of the computer interaction shown the screen...

I’m really surprised your looked for alternatives because, I think Mac OS X has one of the most powerful built in Screenshot App’s ever.
