I was quite sure that the noisy fan and the heat sink was filled up with dust, which would be the reason for the fan to run more than usual. A couple of days ago I finally pulled myself together, and disassembled my MacBook to find out whether I was right.

I found the following guide on how to open the MacBook, and followed it precisely until step number 12:

[ad code=1 align=left]

http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Core-2-Duo-AirPort-Card/519/1

From step 12, it was all about figuring out how clean the fan and heat sink. In order to do so, the fan had to be removed from its location.

How to remove cooling fan

The above image shows how to do it. The two screws (marked with circles) must be removed, and the tape (marked with rectangles) must be loosened. Finally the fan can be snapped out of its connector. Removing the fan revealed quite an amount of dust beween the fan and the heat sink, and the fan itself was also covered with dust. To clean the fan and heat sink I use cotton buds and a vacuum cleaner (be carefull using the vacuum cleaner on the motherboard). I believe the blowing compressed air on the part will be a more safe method to remove dust than the vacuum cleaner.

UPDATE: This is a complete guide on how to remove the MacBook fan: MacBook Core 2 Duo Fan Removal. From this point you can jump to my conclusion in the bottom.

Conclusion:
After assembling my MacBook again, I found that the fan is run less that before my little operation, and also not as loud as before. It is not as soundless as when the MacBook was all new, but anyway I can recommend doing the effort of cleaning the fan and heat sink.

<img

However, I found an other solution to the problem, namely installing tool to defragment the hard drive. Defragmentation is not something you usually do on a Mac, but here it came in handy. I found these two tool to do the trick:

iDefrag (I used this)

Drive Genius

What the tools basically do, is that they are able to moved the files, which for some reason is blocking the Boot Camp Partitioning.
<div

They both have a visually appealing user interface that provides instant access to your media. They can play a wide range of video, audio and photo formats as well as online streaming audio and video. The real power of these applications are found in its library features, I especially like that it can automatically retrieve movie metadata from IMDb; imagery, description, rating etc. Whether to select XBMC or Plex might be a subjective matter.

Product sites: <a

It is possible to just cancel the backup process, and then make a regular Sync without backing up. However, if you want avoid the backup process from starting, there is a workaround. It is possible disable the automatic backup process from starting, and how to do this is described below; firstly for Mac users, and secondly for Windows users:

[ad code=1 align=left]

Mac users:

Quit iTunes.

Open a Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal)

Type or copy the following command:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false

— UPDATE —

The Nokia 6300 do not appear in the list of supported phones for the iSync application in Mac OS X. Nokia has neither made a plug-in available yet, but it is possible relatively easy to make the iSync work. Here is at short guide to make it work:

Make sure iSync is not running.

Locate the iSync application in the Applications folder, and select Show Package Contents.

Locate the MetaClasses.plist file at this path: Contents > PlugIns > ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice > Contents > PlugIns > PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin > Contents > Resources.

Back-up the MetaClasses.plist file just to be safe.

Open MetaClasses.plist with a ordinary text editor, e.g. TextMate.

The trick is to find a phone in the XML list with the same operating system as the Nokia 6300 phone, which is the Nokia Series 40, 3rd edition, with Bluetooth and USB. The Nokia 6280 fits this requirement, and the below XML is a copy of the 6280 XML entry with changes to fit the 6300, which should be inserted below the 6280 entry.[ad code=1 align=left]

href="http://klauskjeldsen.dk/files/XML6300.txt">Copy the 6300 XML from this link

If the USB connection is to be used for the iSync with the Nokia 6300, e.g. if you do not have a bluetooth device on the computer, then change the com.apple.usb.vendorid-modelid XML setting from 0×0421/0x045A to 0×0421/0x04F9

Add this phone icon NOK6300.tiff in the same folder as the MetaClasses.plist file. It is important that the file name matches the one in the XML definition.

Now it should work… Save and close the MetaClasses.plist file and start up iSync. Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone. Select Add Device… from the iSync Devices menu. iSync should find your Nokia 6300, and display the icon that you just added.

Additional notes:

- When to the bluetooth connection is setup properly, it’s also easy to put music on the phone. Just select Browse Device… in the dropdown under the bluetooth icon in the menu bar, and browse to memory card and drop your music.

- If you are having trouble connecting to the internet via bluetooth using the phone, take a look at this <a
